Joint Press Release

  • FIWARE Global Summit takes place in Berlin, co-located with the Smart Country Convention
  • The German-Italy team at ENGINEERING will jointly present solutions for the public sector

Berlin, October 2019. On October 23 and 24, Berlin (Germany) will host FIWARE’s Global Summit. For two days, hundreds of cities representatives, developers, thought leaders, entrepreneurs, SMEs, large enterprises and investors will gather at CityCube Berlin for the release of new software, to discuss new business models and disruptive technologies for the future across the fields of Smart Cities, Smart Agrifood, Smart Industry and Smart Energy.

Organised by the FIWARE Foundation with direct participation from its members and the FIWARE iHubs network, the event will, for the very first time, be co-located with the Smart Country Convention, a highly praised event which attracts over 10,000 attendees each year. In its 2019 edition, the Smart Country Convention will showcase how public services can effectively be digitized.

200sqm filled with long-standing partners and disruptive solutions

For the first time as well, FIWARE Foundation joins the Convention both as a premium, institutional partner and exhibitor. In its 200sqm stand, FIWARE Foundation will be joined by some of its members, including founding member ENGINEERING.

For many decades, ENGINEERING has been accompanying cities in Germany (and beyond) on their quest towards digital transformation. In doing so, the company has been able to incorporate important requirements for cities as well as environmental awareness and climate protection and apply this knowledge when developing smart solutions.

When tech meets Smart Cities, Smart Industry, Smart AgriFood and Smart Energy

Besides being a partner at the FIWARE booth, ENGINEERING will also be on stage at FIWARE Global Summit with prominent speakers from Germany and Italy, including Hans Peter Knaust (Managing Director, Engineering DSS GmbH); Marc-Pascal Lehrich (Consultant Smart City Integration, Engineering DSS GmbH); Dario Avallone (R&D Director, Engineering Ingegneria Informatica and a member of the FIWARE Foundation’s Board of Directors); Lanfranco Marasso (Smart City Program Director, Engineering Ingegneria Informatica S.p.A.) and many others.

Among some of the ENGINEERING’s solutions being showcased at the Summit is the Digital Enabler, an open platform ecosystem (based on FIWARE components) that uses modern IT systems to enable sustainable management, energy-efficient production and innovative mobility management.

With the Digital Enabler, the ENGINEERING Group supports cities, municipalities and public clients worldwide in the introduction (and operation of new intelligent digital services) based on an open platform economy that enables sustainable, citizen-oriented and future-oriented urban planning.

For Hans Peter Knaust (Managing Director, Engineering DSS GmbH) Smart City goes beyond state-of-the-art mobility and traffic concepts. “Rather, ‘Smart’ enables better togetherness and more social participation through modern neighbourhood concepts, independent health and care management and local cultural integration. FIWARE Global Summit offers an excellent platform for cross-sector and interdisciplinary exchange on digitization in the public sector.”

The company is also developing solutions across many other fields, including Smart farming, where it combines innovative IT solutions such as IoT applications and M2M communication with industry expertise. In order to showcase ENGINEERING’s wide-ranging portfolio of solutions, ENGINEERING Italy will present several solutions at the Summit, such as:

  • Waste4Think – Moving towards life cycle thinking by integrating advanced waste management systems;
  • MIDIH – Services to support the Digital Transformation for Manufacturing SMEs;
  • Knowage – The Open Source Suite for any modern Business Analytics;
  • CaPe – A consent based personal data suite to manage personal data in compliance with GDPR.
  • Synchronicity – a harmonized ecosystem for IoT-enabled smart city solutions where cities and businesses develop IoT- and AI-enabled services.

Smart Cities Track

One of this Summit’s long awaited sessions is the Smart Cities Track, on October 24 (open to all attendees from the Smart County Convention) which will address the collaboration between companies, entrepreneurs, investors and city administrators when searching for common mechanisms and collaborations to improve the daily life of citizens and businesses.

Commenting on the expectations for the Summit, Ulrich Ahle, FIWARE Foundation’s CEO said: “We are looking forward to welcoming hundreds of forward thinkers to discuss how we can progress towards innovative, standard-based, sustainable business models so that cities can truly become digital ecosystems. A long-time champion of open standards, FIWARE believes that when standards drive open source technologies, data can be better handled and technologies can be nourished, based on best practices from leading Smart Cities worldwide.”
