The Industrial Value Chain Initiative, a forum to design and implement smart manufacturing for connected industries based in Japan, the FIWARE Foundation, an open source initiative to enable the Data Economy and the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA), an initiative to support the secure exchange and the simple linking of data in business eco-systems on the basis of a semantic standard for data sovereignty and by means of common governance models, announced they have agreed to a liaison to work together to advance their shared interests. Under the agreement, the IVI, FIWARE and IDSA will work together to promote the digital economy by preventing fragmentation and harmonizing various aspects in the fields of the industrial Internet.

Joint activities between IVI, FIWARE and IDSA will include:

  • Identifying and sharing good practices;
  • Realizing interoperability by harmonizing architecture and other elements;
  • Collaborating on standardization;
  • Emphasizing the focus concerning security and usage control of data in the IVI and FIWARE Reference Architecture integrating the trusted connector approach; and
  • Promoting the cooperation and validating the architectural alignment by establishing joint use cases.

“The upcoming digital platform economy will be by pushed ahead by interoperability. Our collaboration will advance the standardization of data exchange while ensuring the data sovereignty of all participating parties,” said Dr. Reinhold Achatz, Chairman of the IDSA Board and CTO of thyssenkrupp.

“IVI wants to promote global and borderless collaboration by win-win value chain partnership not only with manufacturing industries, but also service industries, all over the world. Use cases between our organizations will provide guidance to help accelerate this global collaboration,” said IVI President Prof. Dr. Yasuyuki Nishioka.

“With billions of IoT devices collecting data, globally accepted standards and platforms are getting more and more important. This collaboration will help to make digitisation of global industrial value chains reality,” said Ulrich Ahle, CEO of the FIWARE Foundation and Member of the Board of IDSA.
