FI-WARE is proud to announce our FI-WARE Challenges, our app competitions with prizes worth over 800,000 euros.
The competition will be promoted through Campus Party and its network Campuse.ro and will be run in two phases: part one will end in February 2014 and part two will be held during the first half of the year. Part one will give away over 400,000 euros to the winners and finalists of the two development challenges: Smart Cities and Smart Business & Industry.
The Smart Cities challenge is an important step towards a more efficient management of cities and the creation of innovative services for citizens. Ideas, amongst others, on how to improve traffic management or energy efficiency of the buildings may be submitted until the 20th of December, the deadline for both challenges.
The specific applications for the Smart Business & Industry challenge are aimed at helping businesses in general, but especially SMEs, to manage their businesses more efficiently or to offer innovative services to their customers. As an example, proposals may include applications that help to run more efficient industrial processes or to automate industrial processes in radically different and innovative ways.
HOW TO TAKE PART?
For both challenges the process is divided into two stages. The first stage is a "call for ideas” on a global level and invites participants to submit innovative application ideas based on the two themes that can be developed using the FI-WARE platform technology. During the second phase, candidates must develop their ideas in FI-Lab, FI-WARE’s online environment to experiment with all the tools and generic enablers that its large library provides.
A jury composed of specialized engineers from the FI-WARE Consortium will evaluate all the ideas presented during the call for ideas stage. 112,000 euros in prize money will be distributed among the forty best ideas -twenty from each challenge- and the selected participants will be invited to Sao Paulo to attend Campus Party Brazil 2014 (from January 27 to February 1) where they will be able to finish developing a prototype.
In addition to this, once at Campus Party Brazil, the 40 finalists of the Smart Cities and the Smart Business & Industry challenges will be coached on how to improve their prototypes before presenting their projects to the public and the Jury.
In this first phase, the winners will compete for 290,000 euros in prize money – 145,000 euros for each challenge – that will be divided as follows:
- First Prize: €75,000
- Second Prize: €40,000
- Third Prize: €20,000
- Special Mention for Young Developer: €5,000
- Special Mention for Most Innovative App: €5,000
- Prizes for those who get to go through to the second phase: €56,000
After the completion of the first phase of the competition, a new challenge -also for developers- will be launched in February 2014, together with the FI-WARE Excellence Award, in which all those projects that obtained a score higher than 7 in their evaluation may take part. The winners of the second phase will share over 400,000 euros in prizes.
